Abstract

The development of global tourism trends has shown a shift in tourist preferences toward more authentic, personal, and wellbeing-oriented travel experiences. In this context, wellness tourism has developed as a form of tourism that emphasizes physical, mental, and emotional health through meaningful travel experiences. This study aimed to explore the potential of wellness tourism based on slow living and cultural experience in the Chinatown area of Sungailiat, Bangka, particularly along S. Parman Street. The study employed an exploratory qualitative approach through field observations, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. The data were analyzed descriptively by identifying elements of slow living, cultural experience, and the potential development of wellness tourism within the study area. The findings indicated that the Chinatown area of Sungailiat possessed spatial characteristics that supported wellbeing-based tourism experiences through a relatively calm atmosphere, walkability, social interaction among local communities, traditional culinary activities, as well as the presence of heritage buildings and local cultural activities. Elements of slow living and cultural experience were reflected in the daily activities of the community and the cultural identity of the area. Therefore, the area had the potential to be developed as a cultural-based wellness tourism destination within the framework of sustainable tourism.
