Abstract

ABSTRACT

Low-fidelity simulation method often used to practice psychomotor skills and has proven to improve clinical skills, satisfaction, and student’s self-confidence. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the level of satisfaction and self-confidence of nursing students towards the use of low fidelity simulation in conducting Basic Life Support (BLS) skill. This research was a quantitative study with cross sectional design. 40 respondents were recruited through purposive sampling techniques with nursing students undergo emergency nursing courses as inclusion criteria. The data was taken using the Student Satisfaction and Confidence in Learning questionnaire from the National League for Nursing (2005) which consisted of 2 parts, namely: learning satisfaction consisting of 5 statements; and student’s self-confidence in learning which consists of 8 statements. Furthermore, the data collected was analyzed and presented using mean and standard deviations. Results showed that the mean score of student satisfaction with low fidelity simulation were 21.95 from the highest possible score of 25. Regarding self-confidence, nursing students obtained a mean score of 32.77 from the highest possible score of 40. Overall study results indicated a high level of satisfaction and self-confidence among nursing students towards low fidelity simulation method. As one of the effective teaching strategies, this method can be used to prepare nursing students before they encountered real situation at work.
